CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Three Fighting Illini volleyball student-athletes earned All-Big Ten recognition following the 2025 regular season, the conference office announced on Tuesday. Taylor de Boer and Kenna Phelan were selected to the All-Big Ten Second Team, and Alyssa Aguayo was named to the All-Freshman Team. Cari Bohm was tabbed as Illinois' Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree.
The Illini now have All-Freshman Team honorees in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2016-17, while Illinois' two All-Big Ten winners are its most since 2020.
In her redshirt sophomore season, de Boer set career-highs in every statistical category after entering the year with only 48 career attacks. The Canada native posted double-digit kills in 16 of the Illini's 20 Big Ten matches, and she was one of two Big Ten student-athletes with 10+ kills in each of the first 12 conference contests this season. De Boer finished eighth in the Big Ten with 3.57 kills/set overall, while her 3.63 kills/set average during conference play ranked ninth.
Finishing the year with team-high marks in kills and kills/set, de Boer registered double-digit kills in 23 matches in 2025 after holding a career-high of just three heading into the year.
Playing in a 5-1 system for the first time, Phelan put up career-best numbers in her debut season with the Fighting Illini. The junior setter finished fifth in the conference with a career-high 9.74 assists/set while totaling over 1,000 assists in a season for the first time in her collegiate career. Logging 10 double-doubles, the Arkansas native notched two outings with over 50 assists, including a career-best 57 assists in a five-set win over Michigan State.
Phelan was named the Big Ten Setter of the Week on Sept. 29, the first Illini to earn that distinction since 2021. Collecting 43 assists and 21 digs at Ohio State in October, she was the first Illinois student-athlete to tally a 40-assist, 20-dig double-double since 2017.
Aguayo earned a spot in the Illini starting lineup in all 29 matches during her freshman campaign, finishing the year ranked second on the team in kills and third in digs. Starting her career with double-digit kills in each of her first six collegiate matches, the first Illini true freshman to achieve that feat since 2016, she finished with 10+ kills in 19 outings.
The Arizona native totaled 11 double-doubles in 2025, the most in the Big Ten by a non-setter, while she amassed 10+ digs in 12 contests.
Bohm played in over 60 matches and more than 225 sets as a member of the Fighting Illini. She averaged over one block per set and hit over .300 in her Illinois career. In the classroom, Bohm was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honoree.
