COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Illinois soccer (10-2-1, 3-2-1 B1G) defeated Maryland (6-7-0, 2-4-0 B1G), 2-1, at Ludwig Field on Sunday afternoon.
Cayla Jackson scored the game winner in the 85th minute to give the Illini their 10th win of the season. It's her fifth goal and second game winner of the year.
Maryland jumped out to and early 1-0 lead netting the opener in the 10th minute and carried that lead into the halftime break.
Coming out of the locker room Emma Yee and Sarah Foley wasted no time sparking the offense and Foley found a cutting Yee on the left side of the net as she buried the equalizer in the 46th minute. It's Yee's sixth goal of the season to tie Foley now for the team lead.
Izzy Lee made five saves this afternoon while Illinois put up a season high 23 shots with 11 of them on net compared to Maryland's 10 shots with six of them on goal.
The Fighting Illini return to action in Demirjian Park on Thursday (Oct. 9) against Rutgers. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
