EAST LANSING, Mich. – Illinois soccer (12-4-1,5-4-1 B1G) was defeated by No. 16 Michigan State (8-3-5, 5-1-3 B1G), 5-1, on Sunday afternoon in DeMartin Stadium.
The Spartans opened the scoring early in the 13th minute of the match with a goal by Maggie Illig.
Sarah Foley scored the tying goal in the 25th minute off a free kick on a foul drawn by Sydney Stephens. Foley curled the free kick in from just outside of the box for her team leading -seventh goal of the season.
It was all Michigan State from then out as they scored four second half goals in the 58th, 61st, 67th and 77th minutes to run away with the contest, 5-1.
The Orange and Blue soccer crew closes out their regular season on Sunday (Oct. 26) with a road trip to Michigan to take on the Wolverines. Kick off is scheduled for noon CT.
