CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Illinois wide receiver Hank Beatty was named a Sporting News Midseason All-American and was added to the Biletnikoff Award watch list, it was announced Wednesday morning.
Beatty is having one of the top seasons in college football, as he ranks fourth in the nation and second in the Big Ten in receiving yards (617) and 10th in the nation in all-purpose yards (812). He has caught 39 passes through seven games, helping Illinois to a 5-2 record against the #4 strength of schedule in the nation.
Beatty has also been one of the most versatile players in the country, as he is the only player in the nation with a passing, rushing, receiving, and punt return touchdown this season.
Beatty and Illinois are off this weekend before a trip to Washington on Saturday, Oct. 25.
About the Biletnikoff Watch List
The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the college football season's outstanding FBS receiver and is presented by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation.
Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back, and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the Biletnikoff Award. As such, the award recognizes college football's outstanding receiver, not merely college football's outstanding wide receiver.
The Biletnikoff Award's semifinalists, three finalists, and award recipient are selected by the highly distinguished Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of 600 prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers, Biletnikoff Award winners, and other former receivers.
