Illinois Tops Purdue in Regular Season Home Finale, 1-0

RECAP

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois soccer (12-2-1, 5-2-1 B1G) beat Purdue (5-8-3, 2-5-1 B1G), 1-0, on Sunday afternoon in Demirjian Park. The 12th win of the season marks the most the program has seen in 14 years since the 2011 team won 17.

Izzy Lee was a brick wall in the net yet again today keeping her ninth clean sheet of the season with seven saves. She's now tied for fourth in program record book for single season shutouts joining Alexandra Kapicka who last achieved this feat in 2008.

Cayla Jackson netted the game winning goal in the ninth minute of the game intercepting a Purdue pass near midfield and shooting it over the head of their keeper who was caught off her line. It's her sixth goal of the season and third game winner which moved her into a tie with Sarah Foley for the team lead in both categories.

The Illini applied pressure from the jump getting three quality chances in the first five minutes of the match which helped lead to Jackson's goal.

The Boilermakers outshot the Fighting Illin 14-10 and shots on goal were even at seven apiece for each team. Today's attendance was 1,132.

The Illini return to action on Thursday (Oct. 16) for an in-state rivalry game against Northwestern at 6:30 p.m. CT.
