COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Illinois softball fell in five innings, 8-0, to Big Ten foe Maryland on Friday night at the Maryland Softball Stadium.
With the loss, the Fighting Illini moved to 13-20 this season and 0-6 in conference play. The Terrapins improved to 17-17 this year with a 4-3 league mark.
Tori McQueen took the loss, moving to 6-9 this year. Offensively, Stevie Meade posted the lone hit of the game for the Orange and Blue.
How it happened
The Illini's best chance was in the first when a leadoff walk and a single began the at-bat. Despite both runners reaching scoring position, Illinois could not bring the either member of duo home.
Maryland scored a run in each of the first four frames, including a three-run third, to hold the 6-0 advantage heading into the fifth. The Terps walked it off in the bottom of the fifth, scoring a pair to end the 8-0 shutout.
