CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 4 Fighting Illini men's gymnastics defeated No. 7 Ohio State 413.200-406.350 Saturday afternoon in Huff Hall on Senior Day.
"The guys did a phenomenal job responding tonight after a tough loss last weekend," head coach Daniel Ribeiro said. "As a unit, we got back to our consistent ways of hitting 27/30 routines. It was a perfect night dedicated to our incredible group of seniors. Tate really showed up strong winning three titles and turning the momentum back to us after smashing his parallel bars set.
We have one more meet to prepare us for the postseason and the guys are peaking at the perfect time!"
Six seniors were celebrated post meet: Ashton Anaya, Ethan Boder, Michael Fletcher, Sebastian Ingersoll, Evan Manivong and Connor McCool.
Six Illini took home event titles: Tate Costa took floor with a career-high 14.400, Anaya took still rings with a 14.200, Amari Sewell took vault with a 14.850, Costa took parallel bars with a 14.100, and Ryan Vanichtheeranont took high bar with a 14.100. Costa also took the all-around title with a career-high 81.750.
Event Breakdown
Floor
Fletcher took a solid 14.000, with McCool taking a 13.800 and Ingersoll scored a career-high 13.700 in their last floor performance at Huff Hall.
Pommel Horse
Freshman Brandon Dang had another stellar performance, putting up a 14.400. Will Hauke scored a 14.050 with Ingersoll earning a 13.900.
Still Rings
Logan Myers trailed Anaya with a 14.000, with Ingersoll continuing his steady day, scoring a career-high 13.400.
Vault
Fletcher took a 14.400 with Manivong scoring a 14.300. McCool and Preston Ngai also scored well – McCool earning a 14.200 and Ngai scoring a 14.100.
Parallel Bars
Freshman Vahe Petrosyan continued his success on this apparatus, scoring a 14.000. Fletcher earned a 13.950 with Kyle Mayotte taking a career-high 13.100.
High Bar
Costa followed Vanichtheeranont with a 13.650, with Mayotte taking a 13.600.

Illinois will head to Penn State for its final regular season meet on March 23 at 3 p.m. CT at the Rec Hall. If the Illini win this meet, they have a chance for, at best, a shared regular-season Big Ten title.
