CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 4 Fighting Illini men's gymnastics is set to host the No. 7 Ohio State Buckeyes for its final home meet of the regular season on March 16 at 2 p.m. at Huff Hall for Senior Day.
History
Illinois holds a 114-83-2 record over Ohio State, the only team the Illini have two ties with in program history.
The last dual meeting between the Illini and the Buckeyes ended in a 401.000-399.200 Illini loss in Columbus, Ohio. However, Illinois defeated Ohio State, 409.400-405.50, at the 2023 Big Ten Championships.
Scouting Report
Ohio State is coming off its highest team score of the season after defeating No. 5 Michigan, 412.150-407.400, in Columbus.
The Buckeyes had four career highs in the meet: Kameron Nelson with a 14.800 on floor, Kristian Grahovski with a 14.450 on pommel horse, Nelson with a 15.050 on vault and Tyler Rockwood with a 14.400 on parallel bars. These three athletes also earned first place in those events.
Rankings
The Illini dropped two spots in the Road to Nationals rankings to the No. 4 spot after a loss (406.050) to now-ranked No. 3 Nebraska (416.550).
Illinois has an athlete ranked in each event: Connor McCool is second nationally on floor, Tate Costa is 13th on floor, Brandon Dang is first on pommel horse, Will Hauke is ninth on pommel horse, Ashton Anaya is third on still rings, Amari Sewell is fourth on vault, Garrett Schooley is 13th on vault, Michael Fletcher is 15th on vault, Hauke is seventh on parallel bars, Fletcher is ninth on parallel bars, Ryan Vanichtheeranont and Logan Myers are eighth on high bar and Costa is fifth in all-around.
