CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Former Illini Nick Allegretti is a Super Bowl champion for the third time in his five-year NFL career. Allegretti and the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers, 25-22, in overtime in Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas.

Allegretti's three Super Bowl wins is the most ever by a former Illini. He passed Jim Grabowski, Ray Nitschke, Preston Pearson, Howard Griffith, Eugene Wilson, Dave Diehl, and Ted Karras, who all have two Super Bowl rings.

Allegretti started at left guard in the win for Kansas City, his first career start in a Super Bowl victory. Super Bowl LVIII was Allegretti's second career Super Bowl start, fourth career playoff start, and 16th career playoff game played.

Allegretti has played in 74 regular season games for Kansas City since getting drafted by the Chiefs in 2019. He was a four-year letterman, three-year starter, and two-time captain for Illinois from 2014-18.
