CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Illinois quarterback Luke Altmyer was named to the Manning Award's Stars of the Week and the Davey O'Brien Award Great 8 lists for his performance in the Fighting Illini's comeback win over Rutgers. This is the third time this season Altmyer has been recognized by the Manning and Davey O'Brien awards, also appearing on the lists following Illinois' wins over Nebraska and Purdue.
The National QBÂ of the Week will be announced by the Davey O'Brien Award on Tuesday at 9 a.m. CT.
Altmyer threw the game-winning 40-yard touchdown to Pat Bryant with 0:04 remaining as part of a 323-yard performance to lead then-#24 Illinois to a 38-31 win at Rutgers. It was his third game-winning touchdown throw in the final minute or overtime this season, the most in the nation.Â
Altmyer led the comeback by throwing for 151 yards in the fourth quarter. He also added 74 rushing yards in the win, including a 30-yard fourth-quarter TD run.
Altmyer and Illinois moved up to #22 in this week's AP Top 25. The Fighting Illini close the regular season against Northwestern on Saturday in Chicago (11 a.m. CT, Big Ten Network).
