Box Score BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Illinois soccer (7-7-2, 3-5-1) earned a 1-0 shutout victory over Indiana (6-6-2, 1-6-1) tonight at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
Sarah Foley's 13th minute goal was all the Illini needed in the contest, as Izzy Lee made seven saves to earn her fourth clean sheet of the season.
It was end-to-end action from the start, with both teams creating great chances on goal. Lee made her first save of the match in the second minute with Emma Yee forcing a save from the Hoosier keeper on the other end of the pitch in the eighth minute.
In the 13th minute, the Orange and Blue defense did well to clear an Indiana counter attack and quickly sent the visitors up the field. An excellent lay off from Lia Howard to Kennedy Berschel found the midfielder in space, who played Foley in on goal with a perfectly timed, and weighted, through ball. Foley knocked the ball past the on-rushing Hoosier keeper and into the net to give the Illini the early 1-0 lead.
The hosts nearly equalized just moments later in the 17th minute, but Lee would make a great save at close range from a header that was bound for the top corner. The redshirt sophomore would go on to make a total of four saves in the first half, to keep Illinois ahead 1-0 going into the break.
On the other side halftime, both sides were engaged in a defensive battle, with neither team allowing a shot on goal through the first 16 minutes of the second half.
Lee would be brought into action again in the 63rd minute, making a comfortable save on a shot from distance, and then made another vital stop in the 68th minute when a Hoosier attacker found their way through on goal.
She would make her seventh and final stop of the contest in the 73rd minute, as the Illinois defense didn't allow a shot on goal over the final 17 minutes of the contest, to secure a crucial three points away from home.
The Fighting Illini will be back in action on Sunday, when they continue their road trip at Rutgers. Kickoff from Yurcak Field is set for 12 p.m. CT.
