CHAMPAIGN, Ill. –No. 5 Fighting Illini men's gymnastics (5-1) defeated No. 1 Oklahoma (3-1) at Huff Hall on Sunday evening with a score of 407.200-406.650.
"Today was a big day for the Illini," head coach Daniel Ribeiro said. "These men understand fight. We had a number of mistakes today but these guys didn't let any of those mistakes faze them. The turning point of the meet was when Tate (Costa) finished his parallel bars routine after a fall, and then Will (Hauke) responded with a huge 14.100. Our entire high bar lineup carried that momentum with Logan (Myers) anchoring and sealing the victory for us. We will keep this momentum rolling."
Costa started the night hot on floor, scoring a 14.200 with McCool having another standout score, notching a 14.050.
Hauke kept the momentum high, leading the Illini with a 14.050, just .20 away from the title. Max Farkahadau also put up a good score with a 14.000.
Still Rings National Champion Ashton Anaya won his second floor title in-a-row with a 14.100. Myers also had an impressive performance, taking a 13.750.
