Miyoshi Crowned Milwaukee Tennis Classic Champion

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Sophomore Kenta Miyoshi became the champion of the Milwaukee Tennis Classic on Sept. 24 after a weekend of tennis at the Milwaukee Tennis Club. 

Tyler Bowers, Jeremy Zhang and Lucas Horve also played in the tournament, each collecting at least one win. 

Miyoshi captured his win with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 over Denver's Daniel Sancho Arbizu. 

The Illini tallied eleven total wins in the tournament, including a 6-4 doubles win for Miyoshi and Horve over Sancho Arbizu and Nicolas Herrero Cuesta. 

Head coach Brad Dancer took Alex Petrov and Karlis Ozolins to California for the Battle in the Bay where the duo picked up eight combined wins. 

While Petrov lost early, the senior didn't lose another match the rest of the tournament, capping his weekend off with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 win over Arizona's Herman Hoeyeraal. Ozolins made it to the quarterfinals before losing to Michigan State's Ozan Baris, 6-3, 6-4. 

The Illini will divide and conquer once again next weekend with the Alabama Invitational from Sept. 29-Oct. 1 and the ITA All-Americans Tennis Championships Sept. 30-Oct. 8.
