HANAHAN, S.C. – The Illinois women's golf team opened up the 2023-24 season in 17th place after the first round at the Cougar Classic. Second round action was suspended due to weather, with the Illini on holes No. 9-11.
Freshman Erica Lee led the way for the Orange and Blue in the first round of the season, carding a 1-under 71 to end day tied for 39th. Lee picked up the first two birdies of her collegiate career along the way on No. 9 and No. 12.
Fellow freshman Elizabeth Beek shot a 1-over 72 in the first collegiate round of her career, picking up back-to-back birdies on No. 12 and No. 13 to place tied for 52nd.
Sophia Sulkar and Isabel Sy are tied for 84th after their opening rounds of 76 (+5). Anna Ritter is tied for 91st after her round of 78 (+7).
Kentucky currently leads the field with a team total of 270 (-14) and NC State's Lauren Olivares holds the individual lead at 11-under (60).
