LIGONIER, Pa. – Fighting Illini men's golf alum Tommy Kuhl is set to tee off with Team USA as part of the 2023 Arnold Palmer Cup, beginning Thursday at Laurel Valley Golf Club in Western Pennsylvania.
The prestigious Ryder-cup style competition is expected to be Kuhl's final event as an amateur before he embarks on a professional career starting as early as next week on PGA Tour Canada; Kuhl earned fully exempt PGA Tour Canada status by finishing the 2022-23 collegiate season ranked inside the top 20 (15th) of the PGA Tour University rankings.
A first-team All-American from Morton, Ill., Kuhl will play in the Palmer Cup for the first time but becomes the seventh different Illini men's golfer to compete in the event, overall. He gives the Orange and Blue a representative for the third straight year after classmate Adrien Dumont de Chassart competed for Team International in 2021 and 2022. Other Illini to compete in the Arnold Palmer Cup are: Nick Hardy (2017), Charlie Danielson (2016), Thomas Detry (2014 and 2015), Thomas Pieters (2012), and Scott Langley (2010).
Kuhl will also be joined on Team USA by Crystal Wang of the Illini women's golf program.
The competition includes four rounds of matches pitting Team USA vs. Team International. Each day's schedule begins with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. ET/6:30 a.m. CT. Thursday's round opens the competition with the Mixed Fourball. Friday includes two rounds, Foursomes and Mixed Foursomes, and Saturday concludes with head-to-head singles matches before the closing ceremonies.
