COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Fighting Illini baseball (18-20, 7-9) fell in their series opener against Ohio State (21-21, 4-12), 10-2, at Bill Davis Stadium Friday night.
Cal Hejza opened the scoring in the ballgame in the second, with a line-drive two-run home run with two outs, to put Illinois ahead 2-0.
The Buckeyes responded by scoring six times, on six hits, in the third and never looked back. The hosts would later add a run in the sixth and three more in the seventh.
TJ Constertina worked 3.0 frames of one-run ball in relief, scattering four hits and striking out two, and Logan Tabeling spun a 1-2-3 ninth, picking up one strikeout.
The Fighting Illini will be back in action tomorrow for game two of this three-game set, with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT.
