URBANA, Ill. – Illinois women's tennis came up short to Nebraska from the Atkins Tennis Center in a 4-3 decision on Saturday. Action was played indoors between the No. 31 ranked Illini and No. 67 Huskers.

With the team loss, Illinois moved to 17-7 on the season including an 8-2 record in Big Ten play. Nebraska moves to 15-8 overall and 4-6 in Big Ten play. Additionally, the Illini are now 5-5 in matches against ranked teams this season.

After Nebraska clinched the doubles point, UI saw Megan Heuser, Kasia Treiber and Violeta Martinez all earn singles victories.

Despite a win for Kida Ferrari and Violeta Martinez at No. 3 doubles, Nebraska won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead into singles play.

Heuser was the first off the singles courts, earning a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 3 to even the match at 1-1. Nebraska followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles to retake the lead at 2-1. Treiber responded with a straight-set 6-2, 7-5 win over her counterpart at No. 4, evening the score at 2-2.

From there, Martinez earned a three-set win at No. 6 singles, marking her sixth-straight win. She won by a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, putting Illinois ahead 3-2.

Nebraska would take the final two singles decisions to ultimately claim the match.

With a short turnaround, the Orange and Blue are set to celebrate the careers of Emily Casati and Ashley Yeah on Senior Day, which is Sunday, when Iowa comes to town for a 12 p.m. match.
