ELKHART, Ind. – The Fighting Illini swim team finished their 2022-23 season on the third and final day of the CSCAA National Invitational Championships on Saturday, March 11. The dive team concluded their season yesterday (March 10) from the NCAA Diving Zones C in Bloomington, Ind.
Freshman Liv Dorshorst broke a program record that stood since 2002 in the 1650 freestyle. She swam a 16:33.79 and placed fifth overall today (previous record, 16:35.33). Sophomore Sydney Stoll shaved nearly two seconds off of her previous school record in the 100 IM. She swam a 55.77 (previous record, 57.37) in the prelims. She placed eighth in the finals (56.05).
"I am so proud of this group for their competitive spirit and grit this week at the CSCAA Championships," said first year Head Coach Jeana Kempe. "It was great experience to race again after our Big Ten Championships. These women exceeded expectations and we look forward to building upon this success in the off season."
Junior Cara Bognar recorded the school's fifth fastest 1650 freestyle in her ninth-place finish (16:46.91). She also qualified for the 200 butterfly finals with a 2:00.80 in the prelims, she placed ninth in the finals (2:04.09).
Freshman Sara Jass (ninth, 2:14.87) and senior Kaleigh Haworth (tenth, 2:15.02) both qualified for the 200 breaststroke finals. Jass placed eighth (2:14.83) and Haworth placed tenth (2:17.53) in the finals.
The 400 freestyle relay team of junior Lily Olson, junior Laurel Bludgen, Sara Jass and sophomore Logan Kuehne placed 26th (3:25.47).

This concludes Head Coach Jeana Kempe's first year at the helm. She led the team to a 6-3 record, the best since the 2018-19 season when they went 7-5. 45 new or improved top-10 program marks were recorded in year one. Seven of those marks were new school records. She also led the team to their highest point total at the Big Ten Championships since the 2015-16 season (215).
