Cook Scores 1,000th Career Point as Illini Fall to No. 8/8 Maryland, 82-71

RECAP

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Illinois led by as many as 11 points in the first half but ultimately fell to No. 8 Maryland, 82-71, on the road on Sunday afternoon. 

Four Illini scorers finished in double figures in the defeat as Illinois falls to 19-7 overall and 9-6 in Big Ten games this season.

The Illini made 12 3-pointers and shot 54.5% from deep, while they held the Terrapins without a 3-point field goal, the first time Maryland has not registered at least one this season. 

Makira Cook recorded a team-high 29 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter, bringing her over 1,000 career points. Cook was dynamic all afternoon, making four 3-pointers, which ties her season-best mark. She also registered six rebounds, a team-high four assists, and two steals.

Jada Peebles knocked down five triples, her second-most in a game this season and her highest total since Nov. 30, en route to 17 points off the bench. Peebles tallied one block and one assist in her seventh double-digit scoring outing this year.

Brynn Shoup-Hill put together an efficient effort on both ends of the floor, hitting three 3-pointers in the first quarter and finishing with 11 points and eight rebounds. Shoup-Hill has now recorded at least three 3-pointers in five games this season.

Adalia McKenzie scored eight of her 10 points in the second half, her third consecutive contest in double figures. McKenzie also grabbed four rebounds, dished out three assists, and notched two steals.

Kendall Bostic finished with a team-high nine rebounds, including five on the offensive glass.

Illinois heads back to Champaign for its final stretch of games at State Farm Center the season, opening up a two-game homestand against Penn State on Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. CT.
