Behind the Shield | Serena Starks

Hi ILLINI Family,

My name is Serena Starks. I am a graduate transfer from Princeton University and grew up in Huntington Beach, California. I am doing my Masters in Management and will be looking to complete my second masters the following year. 

Yesterday we played for Breast Cancer Awareness month. Teammates wrote down the initials of an individual they were playing for on their ribbon, and we took a second to realize the game is so much bigger than just the people in our team room. It is a blessing having a platform as student-athletes to start conversations surrounding important topics. 

The team concluded our last weekend of fall games for the year and finished 8-0, ending with an exciting team win. We have the alumni game coming up on Saturday and our Orange and Blue scrimmages the following week.  I am looking forward for the opportunity to continue to compete with this team. As always, thank you to everyone who came out to support! We would not be where we are today without the support of our fans.
