CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois men's tennis secured two wins today after beating Butler and Illinois State on the first day of the home opening weekend. 

The Illini improves to a 4-2 record on the season. 

"It was an exciting day for the guys," assistant coach Tim Kopinski said. "For many of them it was their first dual match inside Atkins in front of our amazing fans.We are looking forward to another strong test tomorrow."

Butler, 4-0

Doubles started off shaky for the Illini with Lucas Horve and Gabrielius Guzauskas falling, 6-3. 

Everything started looking up after Hunter Heck and Kenta Miyoshi took their match, 6-1. The point was clinched with a Karlis Ozolins and William Mroz 6-4 win. 

Alex Petrov was the first Illini to win, taking a 6-0, 6-1 win followed by Nic Meister winning 6-0, 6-0. Mroz clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-1 victory. 

Illinois State, 6-1

Doubles started and finished in less than an hour with Ozolins and Hunter Heck taking a 6-1 win followed by Mroz and Miyoshi 6-0 victory. 

Mathis Debru kicked off the singles victories with a 6-0, 6-1 win, followed by Miyoshi taking the 6-0, 6-3 victory. 

Meister finished his day off with a 6-0, 6-3 win with Oliver Okonkwo taking a 7-5, 6-0 sweep. 

Guzauskas was the final win for the Illini, with a 6-3, 6-2 win. Mroz battled until the super tie break after losing the first set, 5-7, but winning the second set 7-5, but dropping the tie break 6-10 to give Illinois State the one point.
