Illini leave Nashville with Seven Wins

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois men's tennis picked up seven wins in three days at the Commodore Invite from Friday to Sunday, hosted by Vanderbilt. 

Friday, day 1 

Graduate student Nic Meister beat Vanderbilt's Jeremie Casabon, 7-6, 6-3, 7-4 while sophomore Mathis Debru also took on a Commodore, Connor Robb-Wilcox, beating him 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

Freshman Kenta Miyoshi was victorious in his singles match against Vanderbilt's Paul Wang, finishing with a 6-3, 6-2 outcome.
Debru and Miyoshi paired up to go against Georgia Tech's Andres Martin and Rohan Sachdev, but lost 8-4. With the uneven amount of Illini, Meister paired up with South Carolina's Lucas da Silva. The pair narrowly dropped the match, 8-6, to Florida's Will Grant and Axel Nefve.

Saturday, day 2 

Debru picked up another win in singles play, beating South Carolina's Casey Hoole, 6-3, 6-3, 7-5. 

Miyoshi went 1-1 on the day, also beating a South Carolina player, da Silva, 6-4, 6-4. He dropped his first match to Auburn's Will Nolan, 7-5, 6-4. 
Debru and Miyoshi picked another doubles win against Vanderbilt's Wang and Mitchell Deames, 6-3. 
Meister dropped both his matches, one to South Carolina's Toby Samuel, 6-1, 6-2, and one to Ole Miss' John Hallquist Lithén, 6-4, 6-3. 

Sunday, day 3

The Illini battled on the last day of the tournament, however, each lost their respective matches.

Debru and Miyoshi fell to Jip Van Assendelft and Justin Schlageter, 6-4 while Meister and da Silva lost to Ryuhei Azuma and Ethan Silva 7-6 (5). 
Debru narrowly dropped his match to Auburn's Nolan, 7-5, 7-6 (5) and Miyoshi fell to South Carolina's Hoole, 6-4, 6-1. Meister fought hard in his match to Ole Miss' Lithén but ultimately lost, 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-4. 

Up next 

The Illini are slated to compete in the Drobac/Beeman Invite on Sept. 30 - Oct. 2 hosted by Big Ten competitor Michigan State in East Lansing, Michigan.
