CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Illinois women's tennis wrapped up its season-opening trip to the Wahoowa Invite with a combined 15-3 record after three days of action featuring four Fighting Illini student-athletes. The Orange and Blue tallied a 5-1 record in doubles play along with a 10-2 mark on the singles courts from the Virginia-hosted event.

"I'm excited for our kids after a great showing by them this weekend," opened Illinois head coach Evan Clark. "They were consistent from start to finish and produced one of the cleanest weekends of fall tennis that I can remember from a group at Illinois."

The Illini faced competition from No. 5 Virginia (host), No. 6 NC State, No. 14 Auburn, No. 42 Princeton and No. 74 LSU. ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point rankings were announced May 25, 2022, following the team NCAA Championships. The Illini came in at No. 53 in the computerized rankings.

In competition against ranked opponents, Illinois saw Ashley Yeah defeat No. 35 Julia Adams of Virginia - 6-4, 6-4. Kate Duong faced No. 18 Natasha Subhash of Virginia in singles action, falling 4-6, 0-6.

Duong and Megan Heuser played as a doubles tandem across the weekend, going 2-1 with wins over competition from LSU and Virginia while falling to a duo from Princeton. Yeah and Josie Frazier teamed up for the Illini's second doubles pair and produced a 3-0 reading, earning wins over duos from LSU and Virginia (2).

In singles play, Heuser and Yeah each turned in 3-0 showings at the Wahoowa Invite while Duong and Frazier both produced 2-1 records.

"It was great start to our fall season and I love that it has really set the tone for the remainder of the fall."
