WATERTOWN, Wis. – Fighting Illini men's golfers Piercen Hunt and Tommy Kuhl punched their tickets to the U.S. Amateur Thursday afternoon at a qualifying event at Watertown Country Club.
Hunt, a rising junior, and Kuhl, who will return as a fifth-year senior in 2022-23, finished first and second, respectively, and will now move on to compete at the 122nd U.S. Amateur this August in Paramus, N.J.
Hunt secured medalist honors by carding rounds of 68 and 65 to finish with a 133 (-7) in the 36-hole tournament. Kuhl shot a 135 (66-69) to finish two strokes off Hunt's pace and grab the second of three qualifying spots up for the taking.
Fellow Illini Adrien Dumont de Chassart, who is also returning to Illinois as a fifth-year senior for next season, also has a spot in the U.S. Amateur field, earning exemptions as a U.S. Open qualifier, and by virtue of his top-50 WAGR ranking.
