NEWS

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini senior Adrien Dumont de Chassart was honored as a second-team All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) on Tuesday (June 7) when the organization announced its NCAA Division I PING All-America second-team, third-team, and honorable mention selections.

It marks Dumont de Chassart's second consecutive second-team All-America selection. He becomes the 12th golfer in Illini program history to earn multiple All-America nods, and just the ninth to capture first- or second-team All-America honors in back-to-back seasons.

This season, Dumont de Chassart also took home consecutive Big Ten Player of the Year awards, and was also tabbed as a first-team All-Midwest Region selection. He was a unanimous first-team All-B1G choice, his third-career all-conference award, and captured a second-place individual finish to help lead the Illini to their seventh consecutive Big Ten Championship at The Pete Dye Course at French Lick.

Following the thrilling conference championship finish, Dumont de Chassart was presented with the Les Bolstad Award as the golfer with the league's best average (70.15), and finished the year at 70.08 after the NCAA New Haven Regional to establish a new program single-season record.

The native of Villers la Ville, Belgium, captured his third collegiate victory this spring at the Boilermaker Invitational, and posted top-20 finishes in 11 of 12 events on the year, including seven top-fives. Dumont de Chassart closed as Illinois first- or second-place finisher in all 12 tournaments, pacing the squad in a team-most six events, and tallied a team-leading 29 (out of 36) rounds at par or better.

Overall the Illinois men's golf program has produced 37 All-America laurels from 19 golfers, with 30 of those selections coming from 14 golfers under the tutelage of Hall of Fame head coach head coach Mike Small.

The All-America announcement comes one day after Dumont de Chassart punched his ticket through to the 122nd U.S. Open by posting a top-8 finish with a 4-under 136 in the final qualifier at Springfield (Ohio) Country Club.
