Illini Men's Golf in the Pros | June 27

NEWS

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Week 25 brought a slew of exciting performances for Illini alums playing across the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Champions, resulting in a pair of runner-up finishes, a top-10 and a top-15, plus another made cut for one of the Illini men's golf program's newest touring alumni.

Now, with temperatures rising and the July 4th holiday looming, several Illini look to remain hot on the course and maintain the stellar play that has carried them to impressive finishes in recent weeks.

PGA Tour
The PGA Tour makes its annual stop at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., for the John Deere Classic, and the field will once again feature multiple former Illini vying for the title in the Quad Cities.

Steve Stricker, coming off of a runner-up finish at the U.S. Senior Open last weekend, is a three-time winner of the John Deere Classic, having gone back-to-back-to-back at the event in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

He'll be joined in the field by fellow PGA Tour veteran D.A. Points, a native of Pekin, Ill, and PGA Tour rookie Nick Hardy, who hails from Northbrook, Ill.

Hardy, who suffered a wrist injury that forced him to miss a full month of action earlier this spring, is back to playing some of the best golf of his career. Following his tie for 14th two weeks ago at the U.S. Open, Hardy remained dialed in at the Travelers Championship and finished tied for eighth to notch the first top-10 of his PGA Tour career.

DP World Tour
On the DP World Tour, Thomas Pieters and Thomas Detry are both coming off strong finishes at last weekend's BMW International Open.

Detry impressed with rounds of 71-66-69-69 to grab a share of 15th at 275 (-13), his best DP World Tour finish since a tie for ninth at the Ras al Khaimah Championship in February.

But it was Pieters who was in contention for the win on Sunday, carding scores of 69-64-66-67 to force a playoff at 266 (-22), before coming up just short to eventual champion Haotong Li. The performance, Pieters' fourth top-10 of the season, moved the 2012 NCAA Individual Champion to No. 4 on the DP World Tour points list, and No. 34 on the Official World Golf Rankings.

This week, both Pieters and Detry are slated to tee off at the Horizon Irish Open, which beginis Thursday at Mount Juliet Estate in Kilkenny, Ireland.

Korn Ferry Tour
The Korn Ferry Tour heads west to TPC Colorado for The Ascendant presented by Blue, where Michael Feagles looks to make another cut as he moves up the Korn Ferry Tour rankings.

Feagles opened the season by making just three of his first nine cuts, but has played into the weekend in six of his last eight Korn Ferry Tour events since early May, including a tie for 32nd last weekend at the Live and Work in Maine Open.
