CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – University of Illinois women's basketball head coach Shauna Green announced Wednesday (April 6) the addition of Maya Solomon to her Fighting Illini staff as Director of Basketball Operations, pending approval by the Board of Trustees.
"I am so excited to have Maya join our Illini family," Green said. "Having worked with Maya the past two years I know that she will make an immediate impact here at Illinois. Her level of detail, work ethic and ability to develop young women is second to none. Maya will be an integral piece as we build a championship culture here in Champaign."
Solomon comes to Illinois after serving the previous two seasons (2020-22) as Green's Director of Basketball Operations at Dayton. During her tenure at UD, Solomon helped the Flyers to back-to-back Atlantic 10 conference championships and postseason berths in the 2021 WNIT and 2022 NCAA tournament.
"I am so excited and grateful for this incredible opportunity to join Shauna and continue my career at the University of Illinois," Solomon said. "I have gained invaluable experience working within her program for the last two years at Dayton and I look forward to continuing the growth here at U of I. Being able to take part in building a culture of success here at Illinois with Shauna and the rest of the staff will truly be something special."
Solomon first joined Green's UD staff after a two-year stint as a graduate assistant for the University of North Carolina-Greensboro women's basketball program (2018-20). There, she earned her master's degree in applied arts & sciences in May 2020, while helping the Spartans to a share of the 2020 Southern Conference regular-season championship.
Prior to her time in North Carolina, Solomon was a standout and state champion at Penn High School in Granger, Ind. She attended Maryville University in St. Louis, Mo., graduating in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in sports business management. She was a four-year varsity letter winner on the Maryville women's basketball team, and received the program's Senior Award in 2018 while also serving as the Saints' captain.
