Illinois sophomore Hunter Heck was named Big Ten Men's Tennis Player of the Week the conference announced Tuesday. He shared the award with Patrick Maloney of Michigan.
Last weekend Heck went undefeated in singles play including defeating #33 Andrew Fenty (UM) 6-4,6-4 on Friday. He clinched the Illini's victory over Butler on Sunday evening with a 6-3,5-7,6-4 win in #2 singles. Heck also went 2-1 in doubles with partner Lucas Horve to help Illinois defeat Michigan State and Butler Sunday.
Heck is now 11-4 in singles play on the season and ranks #92 nationally. He and doubles partner Lucas Horve are ranked #50 in the current ITA rankings.
