IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Illinois women's tennis team's run in the 2022 Big Ten Tournament came to an end on Friday (April 29) night as the fifth-seeded Illini fell to fourth-seeded Wisconsin, 4-1, in the tournament quarterfinals at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Center.
With the setback, the Illini move to 16-9 on the season.
It was a battle in doubles action as the Badgers (17-8) took a win on court one, before the junior duo of Ashley Yeah and Josie Frazier tied things up with a 6-3 win on court two. It all came down to court three as junior Emily Casati and freshman Kasia Treiber forced a tiebreaker, before falling 6-7 (6-8) to give Wisconsin a 1-0 advantage.
Yeah continued her strong play with a dominating 6-1, 6-1 win over Alina Mukhortova at No. 2 singles, but that would be the lone Illini win of the night as the Badgers posted three-straight singles victories as Casati dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision to Charmaine Seah on court six. Treiber then suffered a 6-3, 6-4 setback to Taylor Cataldi on court five, before sophomore Kate Duong fell 2-6, 6-1, 6-0 to No. 96 Ava Markham on court one for the 4-1 score.
