Dumont de Chassart Selected for Second Arnold Palmer Cup

NEWS

NORMAN, Okla. – Fighting Illini senior golfer Adrien Dumont de Chassart has been selected to compete in the 2022 Arnold Palmer Cup as part of Team International, it was announced Tuesday (April 19) live on Golf Channel.

Dumont de Chassart will make his second-consecutive appearance at the prestigious Ryder Cup-style event. He competed for Team International in the 2021 event held at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill., and will once again be a part of Team International as they take on Team USA at Golf Club de Genève in Geneva, Switzerland, July 1-3.

A native of Villers La Ville, Belgium, Dumont de Chassart is the sixth different Illini to represent the Orange and Blue at the Palmer Cup, and just the second to appear in two Palmer Cups, along with fellow Belgian Thomas Detry (2014 and 2015). Other former Illini to compete in the Palmer Cup include: Nick Hardy (2017), Charlie Danielson (2016), Thomas Pieters (2012), and Scott Langley (2010).

Dumont de Chassart, currently ranked No. 8 nationally by Golfstat, is the reigning Big Ten Co-Player of the Year, a unanimous first-team 2021 All-Big Ten selection and 2021 GCAA All-America second-team honoree. This season, he has continued to excel and was named to the Haskins Award Watch List last week.

Dumont de Chassart is fresh of his third-collegiate victory at the Boilermaker Invitational, and leads the Fighting Illini with a stroke average of 70.04, on pace to break the program's single-season record (70.55) set last season by former teammate and 2021 Haskins Award Watch List honoree Michael Feagles. Dumont de Chassart has closed as the team's top or second-place finisher in each of nine events this year, including five top-5s, and has scored par or better in 23 of 27 rounds, including a career-best 64 (-8) in Round 2 of the National Invitational Tournament hosted by Arizona in mid-March at OMNI Tucson National.

Dumont de Chassart and the Illini close out the regular season this weekend at Ohio State's Robert Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus, Ohio. The team will then turn its attention to the 2022 Big Ten Championship, set for April 29 – May 1 at the Pete Dye Course in French Lick, Ind.

About The Arnold Palmer Cup

The Arnold Palmer Cup was co-founded by Arnold Palmer and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and began at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge, Orlando, Fla., in 1997. The event is a Ryder Cup-style tournament featuring the top men's and women's university/college golfers matching the United States against a team of International players. The Palmer Cup has been played at some of the world's greatest courses, including The Old Course at St. Andrews, The Royal County Down, Royal Portrush, Baltusrol, The Honors Course, and Cherry Hills. Beginning with the 2018 matches at Evian Resort Golf Club, the Arnold Palmer Cup is the only major tournament which features men and women playing side-by-side as partners.

Since its inception, over 125 former Arnold Palmer Cup alumni have gone on to earn cards on the PGA, European, or LPGA Tours; 32 have represented Europe or the USA in the Ryder Cup, Presidents Cup, or Solheim Cup and more than 65 have claimed over 285 victories on the PGA, European, or LPGA Tours, including three major champions in both 2020 and 2021. The United States leads the Palmer Cup series 13-11-1.

The Arnold & Winnie Palmer Foundation supports the Palmer Cup, which provides a platform for perpetuating Arnold Palmer's commitment to youth character development and the growth of amateur/collegiate golf. For more information, please visit ArnoldPalmerCup.com.
