WALNUT, Calif. – The Illinois men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up its west coast weekend on Saturday (April 16) at the Beach Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays, highlighted by an event title from junior Tyler Sudduth.
"Obviously we had some outstanding performances," said headf coach Mike Turk. "It seems like we have had nothing but bad weather for meets this spring but we have been out there working, preaching to believe in the process. We come out here and get a little decent weather and competition, of course, but look at the performances. A school record, a bunch of all time top-10 and personal best performances."
At the Beach Invitational, hosted by Long Beach State at Jack Rose Track, Sudduth turned in the third-best mark in program history to win the men's shot put gold invitational with an outdoor personal-best of 19.13m. Sudduth ranks behind program record holder Mike Lehmann (20.84m) and second place holder Jeff Lehmann (19.16m).
Graduate student Jon Davis continued his strong showing on the weekend with a runner-up finish in the men's 800m with a time of 1:48.85.
Over at the last day at the Mt. SAC Relays, the Illini relays had standout performances as the women's 4x100 relay team of senior Nya Carr, junior Jessica McDowell and freshmen Tacoria Humphrey and Logan Neely registered a season-best time of 45.80, while the men's 4x400 relay squad of junior Robert Williams, freshman DeVontae Ford, juniors Kashief King and Jason Thormo also posted a season-best time of 3:09.81.
