CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois women's tennis heads on the road for the first time in Big Ten Conference action this weekend, traveling to Iowa City, Iowa for a 3 p.m. CT match at Iowa at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex on Friday (April 1), before taking on Nebraska at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb., on Sunday (April 3) at 11 a.m. CT.

Last Time Out
The Illinois women's tennis team earned a weekend sweep as the Illini continued league play with a 4-3 win over Maryland last Friday, before dominating Rutgers in a 7-0 victory on Sunday. With the pair of wins, the Illini improved to 10-6, besting their total win output from a season ago. Junior Ashley Yeah again led the Illini with a 4-0 mark on the weekend as she teamed with classmate Josie Frazier to take both doubles matches, before securing her team-leading 10th and 11th wins at No. 2 singles.  

The Illini's No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Kate Duong and freshman Megan Heuser went 2-0 on the weekend as well, while Heuser and freshman Kasia Treiber also added a pair of singles victories each, with Treiber's wins at No. 5 singles clinching both wins on the weekend.

Illini vs. the Field
The Illini own a 31-26 advantage in the all-time series with the Hawkeyes and have won six of their last seven matches, including a 4-3 win on March 13 at Atkins Tennis Center a season ago.

The Illini and Huskers are tied 6-6 in the all-time series, with UI dropping both matches against Nebraska a season ago, including a 5-2 setback on Feb. 14 in Lincoln and a 4-3 defeat at home on March 14.

Illini Notes

  • Illinois is 10-6 on the season and 3-1 in the Big Ten and owns a 9-1 record at home in Atkins Tennis Center in 2022, with its lone loss coming outside.
  • Illinois owns an all-time record of 258-225 (.534) in the Big Ten Conference.
  • Entering the weekend, Illinois is ranked No. 59 in the most recent ITA Collegiate Tennis Division I Women's team rankings.
  • Juniors Ashley Yeah and Josie Frazier lead the Illini with an 10-3 record at No. 2 doubles, with the No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Kate Duong and freshman Megan Heuser sitting at 9-5. Junior Emily Casati and freshman Kasia Treiber own a 4-4 record at No. 3 doubles, with Casati has also teamed up with freshman Kida Ferrari for one win on court three. 
  • Individually, Yeah leads the way with an 11-3 record on the season, with Duong owning an 8-5 mark at No. 1 singles. Treiber is 7-5 in her first season, while classmate Heuser also owns seven win with a 7-6 record.
  • All eight players have registered at least one singles win in 2022. 
  • Yeah brought home Big Ten Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors on March 22 after posting a 4-0 record in her matches, including two wins with Frazier at No. 2 doubles and a pair of singles wins on court two. It was the first career Athlete of the Week for Yeah and the first for the Illini since Mia Rabinowitz took home the honor on Feb. 18, 2020.
  • Head coach Evan Clark is in his sixth year as the head of Illinois women's tennis and owns an overall record of 91-64 (.587) and is 45-23 (.662) in the Big Ten Conference.
  • The Illini are coming off a 9-9 Big Ten Conference-only season in 2021.
  • The Illini return five players from last season, including senior Shivani Ingle, juniors Casati, Frazier and Yeah and sophomore Duong.
  • Illinois welcomes in three freshmen in 2022 with the addition of Heuser, Ferrari and Treiber.

Illinois returns to Atkins Tennis Center for its second-to-last regular season home match against Purdue on Friday (April 8) at 1 p.m. CT, before traveling to University Park, Pa., to take on Penn State on Sunday (April 10) at 11 a.m. CT.
