URBANA, Ill. - Final day action of the ITA Midwest Regional saw Ariel Madatali take on a pair of seeded and ranked foes in the semifinals and third place match. The outdoor tournament took place at Atkins Tennis Center, running from Thursday-Monday.

Madatali made a run through the main draw bracket, winning four straight matches to appear in the regional semifinals for the first time of her career. The Illini junior took down opposition from Western Michigan, Northwestern (twice), and a fellow Illini along the way.

The Illini junior's first loss came to the top overall seed in Michigan's No. 6-ranked Piper Charney, 6-1, 6-0, in Monday's semifinals. She faced UM's [6] No. 116 Olivia Traynor in the third-place match, suffering a 6-2, 6-3 setback.

As a whole, Illinois racked up 19 singles wins and seven doubles victories across the five-day tournament. Head coach Elizabeth Lumpkin Robinson and associate head coach Calvin Song made their Atkins Tennis Center coaching debuts with the Illinois-hosted event.
