BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Illinois track and field graduate student Jon Davis and juniors Olivia Howell and Tyler Sudduth earned NCAA All-America honors on the final day of the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships on Saturday (March 12) at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
"Jon, Olivia and Tyler had historic seasons that have made a huge impact on our program," said head coach Mike Turk. "They represented us well and we are all hungry for the outdoor season!"
Davis became the first men's mile All-American since Len Sitko in 1991 and the fourth overall after placing fourth with a time of 4:07.69. Davis becomes a four-time All-American and a three-time indoor All-American after earning second-team honors in the 5k race during the 2017 outdoor season, the 3k race in the 2018 indoor season and with the distance medley relay during the 2019 indoor season.
The third-ever Illini All-American in the women's mile, Howell earned first-team accolades after finishing in fifth place with a time of 4:36.86. Her fifth-place finish ties for the highest finish in program history in the women's mile, with former Illini Tara Medozza also finishing in fifth at the 2000 NCAA Indoor Championships. This is Howell's second All-American honor after collecting second-team accolades in the 1,500m during the 2021 outdoor season.
In his first time on the national stage, Sudduth earned Second-Team All-America honors with a 15th-place finish in the men's shot put after a throw of 18.68m on his third attempt. Sudduth becomes the fifth men's indoor shot put All-American and first since J.D. Teach in 1995.
