Dumont de Chassart Named to Ben Hogan Award Watch List

NEWS

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Fighting Illini senior Adrien Dumont de Chassart has been named to the 2022 Ben Hogan Award Watch List, as announced Tuesday (Feb. 8) by the Hogan Trophy Award Foundation, the Friends of Golf (FOG) and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Dumont de Chassart is among just 30 collegiate golfers named to the watch list for the prestigious award.

Dumont de Chassart, the reigning Big Ten Co-Player of the Year, a unanimous first-team All-Big Ten selection and 2021 GCAA All-America second-team honoree, is coming off a season in which he recorded a second-place individual finish to help lead the Illini to the 2021 Big Ten Championship at Crooked Stick Golf Club. He followed up that performance by tying for third at the NCAA Stillwater Regional. A native of Villers la Ville, Belgium, Dumont de Chassart competed for Team International at the Arnold Palmer Cup in June, and in July.

Entering the spring season, Dumont de Chassart leads the Fighting Illini with a stroke average of 70.67, on pace for a single-season top-five mark in the Illini record book. He closed as the team's top or second-place finisher in each of four fall events, including a runner-up individual finish to lead the Illini to a share of the team title at the Hoosier Collegiate Invitational in September. Dumont de Chassart also posted a top-three finish, against a stellar field, to close out the fall slate at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in October, helping the Orange and Blue to a second-place team finish at one of the nation's premier collegiate events.

The Ben Hogan Award presented by PNC Bank annually awards the top men's NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or NJCAA college golfer based on all collegiate, amateur and professional events over the previous 12 months. The Ben Hogan Award Selection Committee, which votes during each stage of the process, is comprised of 32 leaders in collegiate, amateur and professional golf.

This year's list of 10 semifinalists, which could include individuals not on the watch list, will be unveiled on Friday, April 15. That group will be pared down to three finalists on Thursday, May 5. The finalists will attend a black-tie dinner on Monday, May 23, at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, where the winner will be crowned.
