Illinois Drops Weekend Series Finale at Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – The Illinois Fighting Illini dropped the third and final game of the weekend series at Coastal Carolina on Saturday night, 6-2. Junior catcher Jacob Campbell extended his hitting streak to six games with a 2-for-4 day at the plate. Branden Comia, Cam McDonald, and Taylor Jackson also picked up hits in the loss to the Chanticleers. Comia also launched his first homer of the season, a solo shot to right field in the sixth inning.

The Illini jumped ahead in the first inning but gave the lead back to Coastal in the third. The Chanticleers added another four runs while Illinois tacked on just one in the remaining eight innings. Sophomore RHP Jack Wenninger threw 4.0 innings in relief, giving up just one run on two hits while striking out five of the 15 batters he faced.

Illinois is back on the road next weekend at the Cambria College Classic at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Illini will take on Notre Dame on Friday, followed by West Virginia on Saturday and one more game against Kansas on Sunday.

Jacob Campbell has hit safely in every game this season (six-game hit streak).
