CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The Fighting Illini swimming and diving team headed to Madison, Wisconsin on Thursday morning to compete in the Big Ten Chamipionships this week. The team will compete Wednesday-Thursday, February 16-19.
The Orange and Blue will compete against six teams that are currently ranked in the top-25 nationally (according to the CSCAA poll) including, No. 6Â Ohio State, No. 9 Michigan, No. 14Â Wisconsin, No. 15Â Indiana, No. 16Â Northwestern and No. 20Â Minnesota. The Illini fell to Northwestern in their first tri-meet of the year on 10/22/21.
"The championship part of the season is always exciting and fun," said head coach Sue Novitsky, "We are looking forward to the opportunity to compete and test ourselves as a team in such a strong conference."
The five-day swimming meet will begin with the 200 Medley Relay and the 800 Freestyle Relay on Wednesday night at 5:00 p.m. CT. Thursday through Saturday, the teams will swim a preliminary session in the morning at 10 a.m. CT, with the championship session to follow at 5:30 p.m. CT. Prelims for diving will begin at 12 p.m. CT each day with finals integrate with the swimming finals.
