CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Former Illini Aleks Vukic collected a win on the third day of the Paine Schwartz partners $50,000 USTA Challenger on Nov. 15 at Atkins Tennis Center.
Vukic had a tough battle against Great Britain's Aidan McHugh but came out on top, 6-2, 6-4.
In the last match of the day, Heck dropped his match to Steve Johnson of the United States, 6-7 (1),6-3, 6-2.
Sophomores Mathis Debru, Karlis Ozolins and junior Alex Petrov had a tough day on the field, each dropping their matches. Debru lost his match to the United States' Ethan Quinn, 7-5 6-2, while Ozolins lost his match to Ben Shelton, also of the United States. Petrov dropped his match, 6-0, 6-4, to United States' Evan Zhu.
Former Illini Aleks Kovacevic singles match against fellow American Ernesto Escobedo will be at approximently 2 p.m. Vukic's singles match will be approximently 5 p.m. against the United States' Patrick Kypson.
Doubles action will begin tomorrow for current and former Illini with Heck and redshirt junior
Lucas Horve going up against India's N.Sriram Balaji and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan at approximately 3 p.m., followed by Debru and graduate student
Oliver Okonkwo against the United States' Alex Lawson and the Philippines' Treat Huey.
Kovacevic will participate in doubles with partner Shelton against India's Sathi Reddy Chirala and N Vijay Sundar Prashanth.
Illinois alum Zeke Clark and Alfredo Perez will also participate in doubles, playing against Germany's Sebastian Fanselow and Lucas Gerch at approximately 4 p.m.
