MEDINAH, Ill. – The Illinois women's golf team finished Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah in seventh place after carding a 54-hole team total of 842 (-22) at historic Medinah Country Club.
Crystal Wang earned a second-place finish, the best of her career, shooting a bogey-free final round of 68 (-4). She finished the tournament at 14-under, setting new program record for lowest 54-hole tournament total, breaking a record that she set last season at the ICON Invitational (-13). The Diamond Bar, Calif., native, has now finished in the Top 5 in back-to-back events and has also placed in the Top 15 in six-straight. Wang posted an overall score of four-under on par 3s, the lowest among all golfers. Her score of seven-under par on par 4s was also tied for the second-lowest total in the field. The graduate student's 15 birdies were the sixth-most in the tournament.
Siyan Chen finished tied for 35th after posting a final round 71 (-1) in her first event of the season. Chen rolled home three birdies and played steady golf all weekend, collecting 37 pars.
Alise Knudson fired a five-under 67, the lowest round of her career, to finish tied for 46th. The Dallas native had a stretch of four-straight birdies on holes 12-15 and tallied a total of six birdies in the round. Her one-over par 54-hole performance was also the lowest of her career.
Isabel Sy placed tied for 46th with a final round 79 (+9) and Lexanne Halama finished tied for 76th following a final round of 73 (+1) that featured four birdies.
The three Illini individuals also turned in solid final rounds on a day that featured tougher course conditions. Sophia Sulkar turned in an even par 72 to finish tied for 68th, Mattie Frick shot a one-over 73 and Anna Ritter carded a two-over 74 to end the tournament tied for 78th. Both Sulkar and Ritter competed in their first tournament of their collegiate careers.
Kentucky took home the team championship after posting a total of 830 (-34) and Georgia's Jenny Bae captured the individual crown with a 54-hole total of 200 (-16).
