TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Illinois women's tennis team wrapped up play at the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Sunday (January 30), falling to Florida International, 4-2, at the Speicher Memorial Tennis Center on the campus of Florida State.
The Illini (4-3) took the doubles point after the junior duo of Ashley Yeah and Josie Frazier and sophomore Kate Duong and freshman Megan Heuser earned back-to-back 7-5 wins at No. 2 and No. 1 doubles, respectively.
FIU (1-1) then tied things up with a win on court one, before senior Shivani Ingle earned her second singles win of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Basak Akbas on court six to put Illinois ahead at 2-1.
The Panthers then registered wins at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 singles to take the match with Heuser battling in the third set when the match was called.
