Perfect Game Big Ten Preview
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – University of Illinois sophomore INF Justin Janas and junior INF Jacob Campbell were selected to the preseason All-Big Ten team by Perfect Game on Thursday.
Janas had a breakout season for the Illini in 2021, earning First Team All-Big Ten honors and ABCA/Rawlings Second Team All-Region honors. He was the 2021 Big Ten batting champion (.391), led the conference in OBP (.506), and also led the Illini in hits (54).
Campbell slashed .299/.369/.546 in 2021, playing in 30 games and starting 26 for the Illini. He tallied six homeruns and finished third on the team in RBI's with 28. Campbell was also third on the team in OPS (.915) and fourth in OBP (.369).
The Illini have three players ranked in the Big Ten's top 30 prospects for 2022 by Perfect Game. The list includes LHP Cole Kirschsieper (No. 4), Jacob Campbell (No. 22), and Branden Comia (No. 24).
Illinois opens their season with a three-game series against Kansas at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, Texas, beginning on February 18.
