Three Former Illini Competing in the Australian Open

News

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – Former Illini Kevin Anderson, Rajeev Ram and Aleksander Vukic are set to compete in the Australian Open. The first Grand Slam of 2022 run Monday, Jan. 16 – Sunday, Jan. 30. Both Anderson and Vukic will play in the men's singles main draw. Ram will play in the men's doubles main draw with partner Joe Salisbury. Vukic is also competing in men's doubles with fellow Australian Andrew Harris.

Vukic will play his first round match against Loyd Harris this evening at 6 pm CT. Vukic made his main draw debut last year against Russia's Karen Khachano. This season, after an extended time on the road, he rose to a career-high ranking of 156

Anderson's round one match will be against Reilly Opelka at 12 am CT tonight. Anderson is currently ranked no. 101.

The men's doubles draw first round begins on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

Ram and Salisbury won the 2020 Australian Open and then claimed their second grand slam victory last fall at the US Open. They are the two seeds in this year tournament and are currently ranked No. 4 in the world. Ram's first round match will be against Basilashvili/ Kecmanovic.

Vukic and Harris will be competing against Krajicek/Querrey on Tuesday.
