BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 10-ranked Fighting Illini men's golf team opens up its 2021-22 season this weekend, traveling to Bloomington, Ind., to compete in the 2021 Hoosier Collegiate Invitational. The two-day tournament is hosted by Big Ten rival Indiana University on Sunday and Monday.
THE SETTING
The Hoosier Collegiate is held at The Pfau Course in Bloomington, Ind. The course, which opened in 2020, was designed by architect Steve Smyers and two-time major winner and Indiana native Fuzzy Zoeller. It features a Par-71 layout that stretches 7,265 yards.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT
The 54-hole tournament will be played over two days with 36 holes of continuous play on Sunday, followed by Monday's final round. Sunday will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. ET/8 a.m. CT. Tuesday will begin with tee times from No. 1 and No. 10 beginning at 8:30 a.m. ET/7:30 a.m. CT. The low four scores will count towards the team score in each round.
THE FIELD
The Fighting Illini and host Indiana Hoosiers highlight the field at the event, which includes 15 programs vying for the title. Illinois finished 2020-21 ranked sixth in the GolfStat rankings and is No. 10 in the Bushnell/Golfweek Preseason Coaches' Poll released last month by the GCAA. Indiana closed last season ranked 50th in GolfStat, having reached the 2021 NCAA Regionals last spring. The field also includes: Ball State, Bradley, Butler, Cincinnati, Evansville, Illinois State, IUPUI, Lipscomb, Loyola Chicago, Memphis, Miami (OH), North Alabama, and Valparaiso.

ILLINI AT THE HOOSIER INTERCOLLEGIATE
This week's event marks the first time the Illini have competed in the Hoosier Collegiate Invitational at The Pfau Course. However, the Orange and Blue have found great success in previous years competing in fall tournaments hosted by Indiana in the Hoosier State. From 2009 through 2014 and again in 2016, the Illini took home six consecutive team titles at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate (no event was held in 2011 or 2015), hosted by the Hoosiers at Wolf Run Golf Club in Zionsville, Ind. The Illini also won the IU-hosted Crooked Stick Invitational at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind., in 2015.
LIVE SCORING
Live scoring for the Hoosier Collegiate will be available on Golfstat.com. A Recap and results will be posted on FightingIllini.com following each day of play.
