Fighting Illini Soccer to Host Hispanic Heritage Day

News

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini Soccer will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Day at Demirjian Park on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 12 p.m. CT against Maryland. Several campus and community Hispanic groups will be in attendance at this Sunday's match, along with special concessions items, video board tributes and a Spanish-speaking public address announcer. Admission and parking to Sunday's match is free to all.

Demirjian Park will be transformed into a celebration of Hispanic culture Sunday afternoon, with flags from Hispanic nations being displayed surrounding the pitch. Throughout the match Sunday afternoon, specialty items like churros and chips with salsa and queso will be available for purchase at the concession stand. Announcements throughout Sunday's match will also be made in both English and Spanish, thanks to a partnership with a local Spanish-speaking public address announcer.

Among the campus groups attending Sunday's match is La Casa Cultural, the campus cultural house that promotes a welcoming and dynamic atmosphere to Hispanic/Latinx students at the University of Illinois. An informational table on the group will be available beside the marketing table on the south end of Demirjian Park throughout Sunday's match. Students from International Prep Academy and Garden Hills Academy in Champaign will also be special guests to Demirjian Park Sunday afternoon.
