CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini Soccer is set to take on the Butler Bulldogs on Sunday, Aug. 29 at Demirjian Park. Kickoff is set for 1 PM CT and will be broadcasted on B1G+.
Illinois will honor nine Illini seniors for their hard work and dedication to the Illini Soccer program. Makena Silber, Meredith Johnson-Monfort, Peyton Willie, Hope Breslin, Maggie Hillman, Erin McKeown, Ashleigh Lefevre, Katelynn Buescher, and Lauren Stibich will all be honored in a pregame ceremony before the Illini kickoff their match against Butler.
The Illini are coming off of the grand opening of Demirjian Park on Thursday night, where the Orange and Blue fell to #2 North Carolina 1-5. Redshirt senior Hope Breslin scored the lone Illini goal on the evening.
SCOUTING BUTLER
Butler has started the season 1-1 against fellow Big Ten opponents Michigan and Northwestern, falling to the Wolverines 0-5 on Aug. 19 and defeating the Wildcats 3-1 on Aug. 26. The Bulldogs recorded a record of 10-2 last season, making an appearance in the Big East championship game, and were tabbed to finish second in the Big East this season. Players to watch for the Bulldogs include GK Stephanie Rodriguez, F Anastasia Savich, and M Katie Soderstrom.
OFFENSIVE FRENZY
The Illini have scored 10 goals through their first three matches, nearly matching their goal total from last season (14). Redshirt senior Hope Breslin has scored half of the Illini goals this season, scoring one at Missouri, three at Illinois State, and one vs. North Carolina. Senior Makena Silber accounts for two goals, while redshirt junior Kendra Pasquale and freshmen Abby Lynch and Maeve Jones account for the final three goals.
