CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Redshirt senior Hope Breslin was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Women's Team of the Week for the week of 8/19-8/22 as announced by the website Tuesday afternoon.
Breslin is coming off an opening weekend that saw her score a team-leading four goals in Illinois' two victories over Missouri and Illinois State. The fifth-year midfielder scored her first goal in the second half at Missouri last Thursday night, extending the Illini lead to 3-0 on their way to a 4-0 opening night victory. Breslin followed this performance up with a hat trick against the Redbirds Sunday night. The hat trick was the first by an Illini since Janelle Flaws scored a trio at Saint Louis in 2015. Overall, Breslin led the Illini in points (eight) and goals (four) on opening weekend.
In her fifth season with Illinois, Breslin, a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, has played in 62 career matches, starting 58 of those, racking up 15 goals, nine assists, and 39 points.The honor is her first Top Drawer Soccer selection of her career.
Breslin and the Illini look ahead as they face the second-ranked North Carolina Tarheels on Thursday, Aug. 26. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 PM CT and will be nationally televised on the Big Ten Network.
