CARY, N.C. — University of Illinois head baseball coach Dan Hartleb has been named to the coaching staff for the 2021 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, USA Baseball announced on Wednesday. The team will play 11 intrasquad games from July 2-15.
"It's an honor to be involved with USA Baseball," said Hartleb. "One of the biggest thrills I have had as a collegiate coach is wearing a uniform with USA across my chest and representing our country."
This year's Collegiate team will feature 48 of the top non-draft-eligible collegiate players in the country on two 24-man rosters, the Stars and Stripes. Hartleb will assist with the Stars roster, joining Wright State head coach Alex Sogard and former NC State team manager and bullpen catcher Bobby Austin.
Hartleb will be serving his third USA Baseball assignment. He previously worked on the staff of the 14U and 17U National Team Development Programs in 2014 and 2016, respectively.
Hartleb recently completed his 16th season as head coach at Illinois in 2021 and his 31st as a part of the Illini coaching staff. He ranks second in school history with 476 career wins.
