WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Illinois Fighting Illini women's tennis team defeated the Purdue Boilermakers on Sunday afternoon by a score of 4-1. With this win, Illinois moves to 7-8 (B1G 7-8) on the season with one match remaining.
Illinois came out of the gate strong, winning the doubles point behind wins on courts two and three. Senior Asuka Kawai and sophomore Josie Frazier paired up to win 6-2 while sophomore Ashley Yeah and freshman Kate Duong won 6-4 on court three.
Purdue quickly took the match on court two, but K. Duong followed up with a convincing win on court three (6-3, 6-2). Her 13th singles win of the season leads the team and put the Illini ahead 2-1.
Sophomore Emily Casati replaced Belaya in the singles lineup, and did her part taking the win on court six (6-2, 6-3). Frazier quickly followed suit and won on court five (6-4, 6-2) to secure the victory for the Orange and Blue. The remaining two courts were interrupted and left unfinished.
Next Up
The Illini will play at home for their final match of the regular season on Sunday, April 18 against Northwestern. The match will begin at 12:00 p.m.
