URBANA, Ill. – The Illinois Fighting Illini women's tennis squad will host Indiana and Purdue this weekend at the Atkins Tennis Center. Illinois will square off against the Hoosiers on Saturday, March 20th at 11:00 a.m followed by a match against the Boilermakers on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Live stats and video as well as a broadcast stream will be available each day.
Last Time Out
Last weekend the Illini split a pair of home matches against Iowa and Nebraska.
On Saturday they were victorious 4-3 over the Hawkeyes. They were led by clutch singles wins from sophomores Josie Frazier and Ashley Yeah as well as freshman Kate Duong. With all eyes on her court, senior Emilee Duong clinched the win for the squad with a win on court three.
The Sunday matchup with the Cornhuskers came down to the wire but resulted in a loss for the Orange and Blue by a score of 4-3.
Scouting Indiana
Indiana enters the weekend with a 1-8 record (1-8 B1G) and on a five-match losing streak. Their last win came on February 21 against Michigan State.
Earlier this season, the Illini faced off against Indiana in the Illinois Invitational where no team scores were kept, only individual records. Illinois was victorious in six of the seven singles matches that were played, and the teams split the eight doubles matches, four a piece. Their last dual match occurred on March 3, 2019 where Indiana won 4-3 in Bloomington. Illinois leads the all-time series 13-7.
Scouting Purdue
Purdue enters the weekend with a 3-6 record (3-6 B1G) and arrive in Urbana following a win-loss split last weekend against Minnesota and Wisconsin. They secured the win on Friday against Minnesota.
Illinois and Purdue faced each other at the Purdue Invitational and the Illinois Invitational earlier this season, with no team scores being kept at either event. At the Purdue Invitational the Boilermakers had the advantage in both singles and doubles matches. At the Illinois Invitational, the Illini won four of six singles matches and Purdue took two out of three doubles matchups. Their last dual match was on March 8, 2020 in Urbana and Illinois won 4-1. This was the squad's last action before the season was canceled due to COVID-19. Illinois leads the all-time series 18-8.
