TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 4-ranked Illinois men's golf team continues a busy week of competition in search of its fourth-consecutive team tournament win to open the spring schedule when the Fighting Illini tee off Saturday and Sunday (March 20-21) against a formidable field at the National Invitational Tournament (N.I.T). The Illini opened the week with a record-breaking victory, Monday and Tuesday, at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette, La.
THE SETTING
The N.I.T is hosted by the University of Arizona at the Omni Tucson National Resort Catalina Course in Tucson, Ariz. The Par-72, 7,167-yard course – selected as one of Golf Digest's "75 Best Golf Resorts in North America" – has hosted more than 30 PGA Tour Events.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT
The 54-hole tournament will be played over two days with 36 holes on Saturday, followed by Sunday's final round. Saturday will begin with a tee times starting at 9 a.m. CT/7 a.m. PT; Sunday tee times start off Nos. 1 and 10 beginning at 9:30 a.m. CT/7:30 a.m. PT. The low four scores will count towards the team score in each round.
THE FIELD
The N.I.T. features an 18-team field highlighted by some of the top golf programs in the nation.
The Illini, fourth in the latest Golfstat team ratings, are one of four top-10 teams along with Oklahoma (2), Texas (6), and Oklahoma State (8). Host Arizona (17), New Mexico (37), Houston (39), San Diego State (41), UNLV (45), and San Diego (48) rank inside the top 50, followed by Colorado State (52), Nevada (61), Southern California (63), Iowa State (82), Colorado (85) in the top 100. No. 102 Utah, No. 118 Miami (OH) and No. 117 Wyoming round out the competition.

UP NEXT
The Illini return to action in early April, traveling to Augusta, Georgia, for the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational. The event is hosted by Augusta University at Forest Hills Golf Club – just miles from Augusta National Golf Club – and takes place April 3-4, concluding on the eve of the Masters.
